Make Every Event Zero Waste

We cant acheive our 2020 goals of zero net landfill without your support!

Making an event zero waste may seem like a daunting task, but it's actually quite simple. All you need to do is avoid using landfill material. If the waste from your event can be reused, recycled, or composted then your event is zero waste. If you will be putting on an event and would like it to be zero waste, call us at (209) 228-4161 or email us at recycle@ucmerced.edu. We're happy to help!

Example 1: 100% Reusable

An event using these materials is automatically zero waste, as they will not be producing landfill material. Any leftovers will be composted and thus diverted from the landfill, making this a green event!

Example 2: 100% Compostable (paper plates, paper cups, wooden utensils)

This type of event is also zero waste, as these items can be composted. If this event chose to offer plastic water bottles and aluminum soda cans, they would still maintain their zero waste status. So long as none of the material that they are using will go to landfill, the event remains eco friendly.

Please no plastic utensils, styrofoam, packets or creamers.

Unfortunately, an event that offers any of these materials is not zero waste. The above items cannot be recycled or composted, and are sent straight to landfill. Please be mindful of the material you will be using in your event, landfill waste is unnecessary and there are other, more sustainable alternatives to many of these items.
